frequently asked questions
These are designed to help with any general questions you may have. More specific answers can be given at your initial assessment.
Can I have white fillings?
- Almost certainly yes. There are two main types, composite resins and porcelain, the former are usually used for fillings in front teeth and smaller cavities in back teeth, whilst the latter are usually used in back teeth. Porcelain can however be used to crown or veneer any suitable tooth. You dentist will be able to advise you on the correct choice.

Do I need to see the Hygienist?
- At Ashby we believe that it is important to maintain a healthy mouth; this includes teeth, gums and the surrounding soft tissues. 54% of all adults have gum disease around at least one tooth*, however by seeing our Hygienists regularly and achieving a healthy mouth your chances of developing such problems will be significantly reduced, thus minimising the risks of tooth loss

What are implants?
- Implants are used, in dentistry, to replace missing teeth. They are typically made from titanium and are placed in the jaw bone following tooth loss. They can then support a crown to replace a single tooth, a bridge to replace several teeth, or can retain a denture.
Amanda Mellor, our surgical specialist is experienced in placing implants; if you are interested in this option please discuss it with your dentist or arrange an appointment directly with Amanda.

Do I have any payment options for my treatment?
- Most treatment is paid for when it is carried out, however for courses of treatment which cost over £500.00 we offer a finance package, arranged through Medenta Finance. We also offer Denplan Essentials which is a membership package which offers routine examinations and two hygienist visits per annum; this also entitles you to a further 10% discount off any other treatment on our price guide.
If you would like to discuss either of these options, please contact one of our receptionists.
